My Story
For the last few years, I’ve been hearing more and more about the impact that my purchases have on the world around me. Industrial sources are responsible for 50% of pollution in America, and small businesses are more likely to use recycled materials than national chains. And the environment isn’t the only benefactor of our choosing small businesses: our communities retain 25% more money when we choose a small local business over a national chain. There are so many reasons to shop locally, but there are also roadblocks for a lot of people. The biggest one is convenience: customers know the names of national chains but don’t necessarily know the names of any small local businesses they could patron instead. That’s where I got the idea to start Grace Regional Marketing.
After interning for the marketing and development department of a local nonprofit during my last semester of university, I discovered that I really liked marketing, and that I’d already been doing a lot of it for my personal blog throughout college. I’d been crafting blog posts, creating email campaigns, and even trying and failing to get the hang of social media marketing a few times, all just for fun. So over the last eight months, I’ve been studying up on how to improve the skills I’ve acquired over the years so that I could eventually open up my own business, helping small local businesses tell their stories online and find new customers that want to shop locally. While I still have a ways to go before I officially open up my marketing agency, I’m going to document my journey here. Right now I’m just building up a portfolio of work, but soon I’ll be a small business owner myself, and I’d love for you to come along with me on this journey.
